Ready to roll! We arrived in Oberammergau around 3pm this afternoon. The town is famous for its religious plays. They attract visitors from all across the world. It was a zoo. Hundreds of bikers everywhere. Teams riding themselves into shape.
The check-in process was painless and efficient. We got a badge (backstage pass!), a transponder and a big bag which can be used to check your luggage everyday. We won’t be using this service as Adnan’s wife Stacey will be following us in a car. Lucky us...
Everything seems to be really well organized and they do make you feel like a pro. There is the roadbook which describes each stage in great detail. Pretty cool. We are team number 235 (A+B). Our bikes have a transponder on the front and we are also required to wear a bib number on the back of our jersey.
The weather is great and we decided against joining the evening pasta party. People just seemed too nervous and we found a nice restaurant up the hill with awesome views. We had some coffee up there in the sun and enjoyed fresh plum cake and Bavarian Profiteroles (Windbeutel) with yummy ice-cream and lot’s of cream. Yummm....That’s the nice thing: We will be burning it off with each stage probably requiring 3000-4000 kcals.
Oh..the Tour de France started today. Valverde won and took the yellow jersey.
