It is a somewhat scary undertaking. I am definitely in good shape. But the last few months were pretty rough travel and work wise but I still managed to get some good training in. 2700 miles for the year so far. But the stage profiles look rough. Each one of them alone looks very do-able. The big question mark is recovery: How to ride this stuff 7 days in a row? It'll be an interesting and probably painful experiment.
My buddy Adnan from Portland, OR will be racing with me. He is a professional cycling coach and very talented rider. The poor guy will probably have to pull me up some of the mountains ;-) We met at a cycling camp last year and decided to do this race together.
The equipment has been packed. The bikes are ready to go. We both got new bikes for this race. The Cervelo R3 is super light and is the choice of team CSC when it comes to racing on the cobbles or in the Alps. It is one of the lightest carbon bikes out there. I will be racing with a Powertap 2.4 Powermeter. This will provide second by second readings of important data such as power output (watts), heart rate (beats per minute), cadence, speed, kcal, etc.. The bad news is that I will not be able to blame anything on the equipment now.
Jen, Luc and Max will pick us up in Bibione 7 days later...
Let the race begin....
